What does it mean to be a volunteer during Films from the South?
As a volunteer, we want you to commit to working between 15-20 hours during the festival. Film from the South lasts for 9 days, so you will have time to watch lots of good films! After completing the festival, you will receive a certificate documenting your efforts.

What benefits do I get as a volunteer?
All volunteers receive merch, five free tickets and, in addition, the opportunity to see films if there are free seats in the cinema at the start of the film ("drop-in"). You will be invited to a kick-off/gathering before the festival where we will talk about the program and get to know each other.

As a volunteer during Films from the South, you get to meet many exciting people, you gain useful work experience and insight into what it's like to make a film festival.

_____________

When you register, you will be asked to state which areas you are most interested in working with, and we want to hear a little about your motivation. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that everyone will get their first choice, but we will do our best to ensure that everyone gets to do something exciting!

Here are the different tasks you can help with as a volunteer:

Cinema hosting, info stand and event:
Volunteers are the festival's most important face to the public. You are responsible for one of the festival's information stands at either Cinemateket, Vika kino or Vega Scene. You must be able to answer practical questions related to the festival, inspire the visitors and ensure the visibility and availability of information at the festival's display locations. You will also be given various practical tasks related to the screenings, such as ticket administration, simple surveys, help with tidying up and drop-in. As a cinema host, you will be helpful at check-in and assist with Q&As and film discussions. You are service minded, tidy and prepared for both hectic and quiet working periods. It's not a requirement, but a bonus if you're comfortable holding an intro to a screening.

At events, you assist with their practical implementation during the festival (opening party, closing party, special screenings, talks and receptions). The group is responsible for rigging, serving, guarding, purchasing and other practical tasks - with a common goal of creating a good festival atmosphere for the audience! You are practical, flexible and are happy to work both during the day and in the evening.

Runner
We need people who can patrol between the viewing locations. The tasks may vary; talk to the public, or transport an object from A to B, for example. Are you outgoing, have good sneakers and like to be on the move? Then this job is right for you!

Rig and decor
You help with setting up and taking down the festival - both at all our screening locations. You must ideally be available a few days before the start of the festival, but it can also be relevant during and the days after. It is an advantage if you enjoy physical work.

Guest guide
Films from the South is visited by international filmmakers, actors and other guests, and as a guest guide it is your job to welcome and follow up the guests throughout their stay in Oslo (museum visits, guided tours, etc.). The guest guides meet the guests at the airport, answer any practical questions they may have, and ensure that they are in the right place at the right time. You are flexible and can work both during the day and in the evening. State in the registration form which languages you speak.

We hope you will take part in creating this years’ Films from the South edition!
