What is the status of artistic freedom of expression for Palestinian art and film narratives?

For many years, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has supported film production with a particular focus on strengthening human rights and freedom of expression through the Sørfond funding scheme. Palestine 36 received support in 2024 and had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year. Annemarie Jacir’s grand historical drama takes us back to Palestine under the British Mandate in 1936 – a turning point in the country’s history.

The panel will consist of the actor from the film, Karim Daoud Anaya; artist and filmmaker Jumana Manna; and Hege Haaland, Head of the Department for Global Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
