Innocence
Until Miyazaki and his Chihiro won the hearts of a worldwide audience, Akira and Ghost in the Shell were probably the most well known representatives for Japanese animation. Now, nine years after Ghost in the Shell, Oshii is back with an even deeper and more visually impressive dive into the existential questions surrounding what differ humans from machines. In Innocence, we follow the cyborg and policeman Bateu in a dark urban future, where he investigates a series of murders by defect androids. At the same time he struggles to hold on to his last remains of human nature, remains that easily become diffused.
