Paraguayan Hammock
An elderly couple drag a huge hammock through a clearing. They seek shadow and quietude from the barking of a dog. The husband and wife talk about the plantation, about the crops, about the birds in the sky, a sign of coming rain. About the son who is in the war and the dog that will never stop barking. But primarily they wait. Will it rain? Is there hope for the crops? And when will they receive news from the front?
Paraguayan Hammock is a visually simple yet compelling film that in all its stillness will draw you in. Its tableaux are stylistically pure, like a bare stage where dialogue and interpersonal relations are allowed to occupy it alone. akek
