In 2002 a news item from a poor remote village in Pakistan grew ever larger in the international media. Young Mukhtaran Mai had allegedly been gang-raped as punishment for her brother having had a relationship with a woman of a higher caste. Mukhtaran’s family was at first struck down by enormous shame but slowly it was turned around to pride. For with nothing to lose, Mukhataran went to court. Her fate became known all over the world, turning her into an international feminist icon.

This documentary tells Mai’s story with sober means but this does not make it any less intense and gripping. ib
