Zanzibar Soccer Queens
Women’s football is not unproblematic in a Moslem society. Zanzibar Soccer Queens is the story of Women Fighters, Zanzibar’s first female football team. Nassra Juma is the coach and founder of the team and a great inspiration for them all. To the women this is more than football, belonging to a group is just as important. And everyone is struggling with their small and big problems, for example men who don't like them playing, marital problems and poverty. But the film is primarily about the joy of playing, solidarity and hope. Director Florence Ayinsi teaches film in Wales, and she has previously made Sister in Law together with Kim Longinotto. akl
