Cold Fish

This bloody and deeply dark comedy thriller made The New York Times write that Cold Fish is a deliciously warped wallow in misogyny, depravity and dead-eyed manipulation. The story about two of the worst serial killers in modern Japanese history begins when teenage girl Mitsuko is caught stealing. Director Shion Sono challenges his audience with explicit sexual and violent scenes, in a film where traditional Japanese society and customs appear as sharp contrasts to violence and neon lights. Japanese animation has clearly inspired both plot and filmatic expression. Cold Fish is a beautifully shot, completely off-kilter movie. The fact that the plot is loosely based on a true story only adds to the madness. lac
