Granito
Granito proves that films not only document history but also make history. Director Pamela Yates' award-winning documentary tells the story of the 36 year-long Guatemalan civil war which left 200,000 civilians dead and tens of thousands injured. Yates follows the proceedings of the war crimes tribunal set in Spain and combines it with her own archive footage from When the Mountains Tremble. This 1983 documentary was shot at the height of the horrifying conflict in Guatemala, where Yates shot the only known footage of the army carrying out massacres on civilians. 25 years later, this footage becomes evidence in a trial against the same army commander who permitted Yates to film the atrocities. cl
