Far more than a mere kidnapping story, this is the tale of two brothers Yaki and Shaul, who hold a rich schoolgirl for ransom.18 year-old Yaki is equipped with an assault weapon from the army, and the brothers are capable of inflicting horrific terror on their victim. At the same time, the kidnapping is their attempt to save the family from financial ruin. With uncanny performances by brothers David and Eitan Cunio, the drama unfolds through the almost telepathic communication between the two. Tom Shoval manages to tell an allegorical story without reducing his characters to empty symbols. kf

Youth is the feature debut of young Israeli filmmaker Tom Shoval (b. 1981). He graduated from the Sam Spiegel Film School in Jerusalem, and his short films have won awards and grants. He is a co-founder of the «Baboon Group», a collective of filmmakers who create short films with no government funding, in order to keep their creative freedom.
