With the basic plot of a children's film, artist and director Murakami mixes pop art, animé and commercial film in Jellyfish Eyes (2013). We follow Masashi and his mother who moves to a small town after the Fukushima disaster. Masashi soon discovers that their new home town has a mysterious and dark side. The biggest mystery is the small creatures that every child has and controls. When the dark forces appear in town, it's up to the children and their creatures to help save Japan from a new disaster. Although with clear references to Fukushima, Jellyfish Eyes is more than anything a playful film from one of Japans' most famous artists. eg

Murakami Takashi is one of Japans most famous contemporary artists. He has spent most of his life working with art, and has a Ph.D. in traditional Japanese art. Highly influenced by Japanese manga and anime, he created the term «Superflat». Here he mixes the ultra-commercial with more traditional Japanese art. Jellyfish Eyes is his first film as a director.
