Of Love and Other Demons
Adapting Gabriel García Márquez' novels to film must be a thankful job for a director. His writing style of magic realism with its picturesque scenarios and multilayered characters is as if made for the big screen. Eliza Triana is stunning in her debut role as 13-year-old Sierva, bitten by a rabies infected dog and locked away in a convent against her will. The young priest Cayetone is drawn between his faith and intense feelings towards Sierva. Against a backdrop of fading colonial upperclass and religious fanaticism, a dramatic love story conquering both dreams and reality unfolds, which according to Marquez was written with the vocabulary of film. akek
