In his film, director Felipe Guerrero explores the lives of three Colombian women, told in three separate stories with almost no dialogue, in a country with political instability and armed conflict. The first story introduces us to Rocio who returns to her village after doing laundry to discover that the village has been destroyed and abandoned. She decides to travel to the capital, Bogota, and faces plenty of problems on her way. Pregnant La Mona is the centre of the second story living with the paramilitary who constantly abuses her, and in the last story we get acquainted with Nelsa, a paramilitary, who gets abused by her colleagues. This is an important film which on one side shows how beautiful the Colombian nature is, but at the same time focuses on how damaging certain individuals are and the inhuman acts they commit against each other.

Felipe Guerrero is an Colombian director who has also worked on numerous films as editor. Oscuro animal is his long feature debut. He has made two short films and two documentaries before this film, among them Corta (2012) about the hard manual work on the sugar fields of Colombia. Guerrero is currently working on his next documentary, Mapa Mudo.
