Released in 2015, Lamb was quite a sensation: an Ethiopian film on the red carpet at the Cannes film festival. Lamb made it there, as the first Ethiopian film ever. It tells the story about Ephraim, a young boy who has to protect his pet dear Lamb. After his father must travel to the city in search of work, Ephraim is sent to live with distant relatives on the impoverished Ethiopian countryside, where food is a scarce resource. They are eager to slaughter and eat his little lamb. Lamb is a heart-warming and intelligent coming-of-age-film with a strong sociopolitical undercurrent.

Yared Zeleke (b. 1978) is a director, screenwriter and producer from Ethiopia. He studied film at the New York University, and in addition to making a number of short films he has also worked for several non-profit organisations. Lamb was his first feature film as a director.
