Childhood friends Patricia and Heidi reconnect trough video letters after several years apart. In a Whisper is an award-winning documentary about friendship, freedom and the love of film.

Heidi and Patricia grew up in Cuba, with the communist ideals of Che Guevara hanging over them – but the promise of a bright future failed to materialize. The two girls studied film together, but split up as the search of a better future brings them to two different European countries. Heidi ended up in Switzerland and Patricia in Spain. They had no contact for years. However, they meet again when they are 40 years old, through the language they know and love; film.

In a Whisper is a nostalgic, intimate, and essayistic documentary about two women trying to understand themselves, their choices and their longing for freedom.

Heidi Hassan (b. 1978) is visual artist and filmmaker born in Cuba, where she studied cinematography. She emigrated to Switzerland and graduated as a film director there in 2008. She currently works as a filmmaker and visual artist with numerous collaborations as a director of photography. In a Whisper is her second full-length documentary. Patricia Pérez Fernández (b. 1978) born in Cuba, studied drama and film directing in Cuba before she moved to Spain in 2003, where she received a film scholarship. Since then, she has made several short fiction films and documentaries. She is a staff member at DOCMA. In a Whisper is her feature documentary debut.
