The Israeli state demand two years of obligatory military service for both women and men. The policy stems from a ground value during the establishment in 1949, that the people of Israel should learn to fight for themselves instead of relying on an institutional defense. The military service is disputed, and more and more young Israelis are starting to protest it. In Objector, we meet Atalya, one of the people who resist joining the military because she feels she cannot justify the role of Israel in the conflict with Palestine. The consequences of refusing military service is incarceration for an indefinite time, as well as being perceived as a traitor by many.

Through conversations with family members, Atalya is confronted with diverse perceptions and disagreements within the realms of the Israeli family. While she prepares for prison, she visits occupied areas, talks to Palestinians and other Israeli deserters. Director Molly Stuart take on an interesting theme for her first documentary and succeeds in deconstructing the image of the Israeli people as a united front.
