A captivating and emotionally charged genre hybrid set in Medellín's queer community, with human encounters that linger long after leaving the theatre.

Anhell69 mixes documentary and fiction in a very striking way. The cryptic title refers to the Instagram name of one of the most heartbreaking fates we are presented with in the film. Colombian director Theo Montoya crosscuts interviews he has done with members of the highly self-destructive queer community in conservative Medellín with scenes from a B-movie about ghosts he made several years ago. The ghosts work brilliantly as an allegory for the many interview subjects who have passed away since Montoya spoke to them.

«Both in its editing and visually, Anhell69 is often striking — in its fragmented, strobed renditions of drag nightclubs, in the ghostly sequences from the film Montoya is going to make, in its magnificent high-altitude drone shots of Medellin at night.»
