All We Imagine As Light
This year’s opening film at Films from the South beautifully captures the vast contrasts of Mumbai in a gorgeously shot, poetic tale about the lives of two women in the massive city.
The stoic Prabha and the younger, more scatterbrained Anu are roommates and nurses. Both long for love and closeness. The man Prabha was married off to as a young woman moved to Germany shortly after the wedding, and she has heard very little from him since. Anu, on the other hand, is in love with a Muslim boy and is not thrilled with her parents’ intention to marry her off to someone else.
The film has an almost hypnotic quality, with its understated expression drawing you fully into Mumbai’s nightlife and the heartfelt conversations between lovers, friends, and colleagues.
«The beats of All We Imagine as Light are calibrated with hypnotic grace creating a rhythm that induces pure pleasure.»

ALL WE IMAGINE AS LIGHT is this year’s opening film at Films from the South. Before the film, we will present the art project «Different Trains» by musician and researcher Tejaswinee Kelkar and visual artist Nikhil Vettukattil. This is an experimental short film with sound poetry that reconstructs the acoustic textures of Mumbai, created specifically for this premiere screening.
After the film, you are warmly invited to continue the celebration with us at BECCO, where DJ Mor Efrony will provide the music.
