Left-Handed Girl

A touching and visually striking family portrait set in Taipei's bustling nightlife, directed by Sean Baker's regular creative partner.

In the film, which premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival, we meet little I-Jing, who has moved to the big city of Taipei with her sister, who is at the beginning of adulthood, and their mother. The mother opens a small food stall at one of the city's many night markets, the sister gets a job in a sleazy kiosk, and neither of them is doing particularly well. 

I-Jing is largely left to herself or placed with her traditional grandparents, who believe that her left-handedness means she is possessed by the devil. Family conflicts and traditional structures simmer beneath the surface, while the story unfolds in a visually impressive way from the little girl's naïve perspective.
