Lula
Join a deep dive into the fascinating life of the charismatic president and learn about the journey to the top, the fall, and the triumphant return of Brazil's Luiz Inácio «Lula» da Silva.
For most people in the West, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is seen as the big savior of Brazil, after four years with Jair Bolsonaro in the presidential palace. He is a charismatic statesman with roots in the labor unions, and someone who has fought his way back from personal tragedies, accusations of corruption and imprisonment. But he is also a man who divides his citizens, and when he was elected president for the third time in the autumn of 2022, it was by a very narrow margin. As usual with Oliver Stone, the filmmaking is uncompromising, bombastic and riveting, and the film undoubtedly invites discussion after the credits.
«LULA is a film that goes for the big, broad strokes of the story rather than cutting deeper into any of it. Still, the journey it takes us on is a remarkable one and, when it all comes down to it, Stone still effectively immerses us in the context of the moment when Lula defeated Bolsonaro.»

The Critical Room // Is Decency Back in the Presidential Palace in Brasília?
In connection with the screening of LULA on Thursday, November 14, at 20:00 at Cinemateket, there will be a discussion about the situation in Brazil two years into Lula's third presidential term. Is there any validity to the accusations previously leveled against him? And, not least, is Stone's film entirely truthful?
