The Falling Sky
A visually striking film that provides a deeper insight into the distinctive customs and way of life of the Yanomami people and their struggle to continue living as they always have.
The Falling Sky sets the tone from the first scene. A group of Yanomami people come wandering through the jungle. We follow them for several minutes, where together they create a distinctive cacophony of sound. In the scenes that follow, we get to know their peculiar way of life in the Amazon. We get to see how the people, who number around 35,000, live more or less in symbiosis with their surroundings.
Among them we meet Davi Kopenawa, their charismatic leader and shaman, who has met King Harald on several occasions. Until the 1970s, they lived almost in total isolation, but since then they have increasingly become the victims of deforestation, mining and outright abuse. The film is not only gripping in terms of content but is also top-class visual filmmaking.
«Filled with beauty and fury, the film offers an immersive portrait of an endangered community.»
