It Was Just an Accident

This year’s Palme d’Or winner follows a former prisoner who kidnaps the man he believes ruined his life – setting off an uncontrollable chain of events.

At the heart of the film lies the question: If you stood before the man who destroyed your life – and the lives of many others – what would you do? This is Panahi’s first film after serving a prison sentence in Iran, and it is yet another powerful masterpiece. A dark satire about morality, abuse of power, and repressed memories. Master director Jafar Panahi won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year with It Was Only an Accident.
