The Isle

An intense romantic thriller from South Korean master Kim Ki-duk.

Hee-jin is a beautiful and extremely quiet, perhaps mute, loner who lives by a lake in the Korean wilderness. She makes a living by renting out floating platforms with small cabins to fishermen and supplying them with food, bait, and prostitutes – sometimes even offering herself.

Hyun-shik, who rents one of her floating cabins, is on the run from the law, desperate, and almost as taciturn as Hee-jin. When she stops him from committing suicide, it marks the beginning of a mutual attraction that develops into a passionate, but also deeply painful and self-destructive, love affair between two outcasts.
