Palme d’Or winner Jafar Panahi is coming to Oslo
The Iranian director Jafar Panahi is visiting Films from the South for the first time in nearly twenty years. Earlier this year, he received the Palme d’Or in Cannes for his new film It Was Just an Accident, which will have its Norwegian premiere during the festival.
Audiences will have the opportunity to meet the director at two screenings during the festival:
- Friday, NOV 7 at 20:30 – Vega Scene
- Saturday, NOV 8 at 20:00 – Vika Kino
After the Friday screening, he will take part in a conversation with director Kaveh Tehrani, and after the Saturday screening, in a conversation with Karsten Meinich, editor of Montages.
– Welcoming Panahi to Oslo is nothing short of historic,” says Lasse Skagen, Head of Programming for Films from the South.
– Jafar Panahi’s Palme d’Or winner It Was Just an Accident is a knockout of a film from one of the world’s most courageous and uncompromising filmmakers. For three decades, Films from the South and Arthaus have championed Panahi’s groundbreaking cinema – from The White Balloon to No Bears, when he (in absentia) received the festival’s Honorary Award. It is a great pleasure to welcome him back to Oslo,” says Svend Jensen, Managing Director of Arthaus.
Panahi’s visit takes place as Films from the South celebrates its 35th anniversary. From NOV 6–16, Oslo will be filled with more than one hundred films from over forty countries – and Panahi’s presence marks a highlight of this jubilee year.
