The Critical Room: Guardian of the Rainforest // YANUNI
Yanuni is a compelling and intense film about the desperate struggle to preserve the Amazon and those who live in the rainforest.
At the center of the film is indigenous leader Juma Xipaia, a courageous activist from Brazil and the first woman ever elected chief in the Middle Xingu region of the Amazon. We also meet Juma’s husband, Hugo, who works to protect the rainforest as a helicopter pilot for IBAMA, Brazil’s armed environmental enforcement agency.
In collaboration with the Rainforest Foundation Norway, we invite you to a discussion following the screening about the film’s central themes. Director Richard Ladkani will be present. The discussion will be held in English and moderated by Lars Løvold, special advisor and former head of the Rainforest Foundation Norway.
