Days of Glory
In the first years of World War II the French pursued an extensive recruiting policy in its North African colonies. Moroccan, Moorish, Algerian, and Tunisian military units were formed. They were trained with sight set on the final, decisive attack on fascist Italy and eventually brought into action for the liberation of France. We meet a number of young men whose motives for enlisting varied sharply. We meet adventurers; those who were actually fighting against facism; and those who thought that by serving France they could obtain advantages as individuals and as a people struggling for their dignity within the colony. olr
