The Night Bus
During the Iran-Iraq war, a rattling bus is transporting Iraqi prisoners of war from the front over to the Iranian side. Behind the wheel we find an elderly war-injured man, while a young and inexperienced soldier tries to keep the prisoners under control. Because of unforeseen obstacles, like punctures, mines and faulty map-reading, the driver and the soldier have to get assistance from their prisoners in various ways, and the people behind the uniforms gradually come into focus.
Following this risky and unpredictable journey through the night, the film becomes an engaging ensemble drama about the balance of power and humanity, under the pressure from war, fear and the dark of the night, stylishly shot in black-and-white. ib
