Aluku Liba
It is break of dawn when Loeti leaves the modern civilisation behind, and takes off into the bush, seeking his lost and distant home. Lonely in the forest, but never alone, in a universe presented with almost pantheistic dimensions. This jungel odyssey brings Loeti home to his Aluku-people – the first African slaves to escape the plantations of Suriname in the late 18th century. They have since been living in isolated, resourceful communities by the Maroni river in French Guyana, a culture portrayed in a unique, intelligent and thought provoking manner in this lyrical documentary. mm
