At Midnight and a Half
The new millennium is approaching and a tidal wave of apocalyptic proportions is threatening a seaside city on the Venezuelan coast. Most of the inhabitants try to flee, causing a standstill in the traffic on the main road out of the area. Sebastian decides to take a detour to a small town. To his surprise, he discovers a girl playing in the abandoned streets. She uses the city as a game board and thinks she can prevent disaster by gathering points in a game she has made up for herself. Among the deserted buildings he also runs into Ana, a sensual and mythical woman who takes photos of the city of which she has a miniature model made of wood. The question the film seems to ask is: When disaster is looming, how does one cope? Time and meaning are woven together in intricate ways, and catholic imagery is mixed with ancient myths. red
