The Attorney

The Attorney is a court drama based on true events in 80s South Korea where a tax attorney becomes a devoted human rights activist and lawyer. The story is based on that of the late Roh Moo-hyun, who later served as president. Song Woo-seok is an attorney motivated by money. He ridicules the rising democracy movement demonstrating against the repressive regime, saying it's like throwing eggs at a rock. A student working in the nearby restaurant claims to their defence that things can grow from eggs, rocks can only wither. When this student is arrested and tortured as a subversive communist, the attorney understands that this is a case worth fighting for. gil

The webtoonist Yang Woo-seok makes his feature film debut with this controversial box office hit that has already become something of a sensation in his home country. It has been seen by ten millions in the cinemas, which is one out of five in South Korea. The film is based on his webtoon.
