The year is 1146, and we are at the beginning of the short-lived Song dynasty. It is four years after the death of the legendary Yue Fei, and following the meeting with the rival Jin dynasty in the palace of politician Qin Hui, a murder takes place. A major conspiracy is about to unfold, and for two clumsy amateur detectives, it is urgent to find the letter that reveals who is guilty before morning comes. In this intricate crime story, it is essential to keep a clear head as action-packed and bloody chaos ensues in the palace's countless nooks and crannies. As always in Zhang's films, the set design and costumes are world-class, and the cast includes some of China's biggest movie stars.
