Shambhala
When one of the husbands of pregnant Pema disappears on a trading trip, she embarks on a journey in the Himalayas to search for him.
The village they live in is polyandrous, meaning the women have multiple husbands. The missing husband, Tashi, is just one of three husbands, the other two being his brothers, Karma and Dawa. When Tashi disappears, the village begins to question who the real father of Pema's child is. She embarks on a physical and spiritual journey through the harsh landscape of the Himalayan mountains to prove her love for Tashi, and that the child is theirs. The search for Tashi becomes a journey toward self-understanding and liberation for Pema.
Shambhala is the first Nepalese feature film to be shown in the main competition at the Berlin Film Festival, where it had its world premiere.
