The Son and the Moon
A beautiful and touching insight into filmmaker Rojas' battle with cancer, and her strong desire for her son to connect with his mother's homeland, Iran.
In this moving documentary, directed by Emilie Adelina Monies and Roja Pakari, they turn the camera on themselves. The Danish-Iranian director Roja has become pregnant and developed incurable cancer in the bone marrow. This is her journey over six years. She not only fights against her frailty, but also bets on a normal life, and wants to live it in all its normal rhythms.
The film is deep-dive into her Iranian origins and family background, which opened a new chapter when her politically engaged parents fled Iran and ended up in Denmark. This is a deeply personal film, where she will give everything to her young son Oskar. A sad (but also somewhat hopeful) story about a mother's love for her son and her original background.
