A family embarks on a temple-to-temple roadtrip in this gorgeous and meditative film.

When Sokol, a man in his sixties, is informed by a fortune teller that his aging mother will soon pass away, he vows to do whatever he can to save her – be it in this life or the next. Dragging his family along, he brings his mother to a variety of temples, praying that the list of rituals and ceremonies he received may truly change her fate.

Sweet and melancholic in equal measure, 9 Temples to Heaven is a film which takes its time, letting each moment breathe.

The film is the debut feature of Sompot Chidgasornpongse, a frequent assistant director to Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and this year’s Thai submission for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
