In excellent ways, YELLOW LETTERS combines an intimate family drama with a powerful portrait of censorship and authoritarianism.
Winner of the Golden Bear at the 2026 Berlinale! Derya and Aziz are a famous theatre couple in Ankara who are labeled as political dissidents. Both receive the feared “yellow letter” and lose their jobs and standing in public life. As the state-driven persecution intensifies, their marriage and their relationship with their teenage daughter are pushed to the breaking point. With this drama, German-Turkish director İlker Çatak follows up on his Oscar-nominated The Teachers’ Lounge.
