Alberto Sciamma

Alberto Sciamma was born in Barcelona and studied film at the West Surrey College of Art and Design in England. He began his career directing music videos and gradually moved into feature films, both as a screenwriter and director. Although his work spans various genres, he consistently creates unique worlds that stand somewhat apart from naturalistic reality.

The Killer Tongue was his first award-winning feature film. Variety described it as “an off-the-wall, over-the-fence and far-beyond horror comedy.” After this, Sciamma continued working as an independent writer and director, with films such as Anazapta – a supernatural thriller set in England in 1348, Jericho Mansions – a surreal thriller shot in Canada, Bite – a wild horror comedy filmed entirely in Rome, and I Love My Mum – a slapstick-infused social satire about accidental immigration.

His latest film, Cielo, is his most personal work to date, and his first Spanish-language film, shot entirely in Bolivia. It won three awards at its first festival, Fantasporto 2025: the Jury’s Special Award, the Audience Award, and the prize for Best Cinematography.
