In collaboration with Cinemateket, we are presenting a focus on Taiwan this year. Join us on a journey through time and space to get better acquainted with the exciting cinema of Taiwan.

Some of the finest and most innovative films of the past 40 years have come from Taiwan. This year's Films from the South offers both a revisit to old classics and new favorites from the country.

 

TAIPEI STORY (1985) 
TAIPEI STORY is considered one of the pivotal works of the Taiwanese new wave and one of Edward Yang's (Yi Yi, A Brighter Summer Day) finest films. Screening Thursday, November 13th at 17:30 in Lillebil.

 

A BRIGHTER SUMMER DAY (1991)
A timeless nostalgic masterpiece. This is Edward Yang's towering achievement and one of the best films of the '90s. Screening on Saturday, November 9th at 16:00 in Tancred. 

 

REBELS OF THE NEON GOD (1992)
This is the iconic debut film of Tsai Ming-liang, one of the '90s most original and uncompromising filmmakers, and one of the directors who helped put Taiwan on the cinematic world map. Screening on Tuesday, November 12th at 19:45 in Tancred. 

 

EAT DRINK MAN WOMAN (1994)
Before the masterpiece CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, Ang Lee created this fantastic classic about food and family relationships. Screening on Sunday, November 10th at 14:00 in Tancred. 

 

THE WAYWARD CLOUD (2005)
This is an unconventional love story, and possibly Tsai Ming-liang's funniest film to date. The characters' dreams and nightmares are narrated through grand musical scenes, spiced with Taiwanese music from the 1960s. Screening on Monday, November 11, at 20:00 in Lillebil.

 

THE ASSASSIN (2015)
The Tang dynasty in the ninth century. At the age of ten, Nie Yinniang is kidnapped by the nun Jiaxin, who trains her to become a calculating assassin. Screening on Wednesday, November 13, at 20:30 in Lillebil. 

 

FISH MEMORIES (2023)
This is a stylish and juicy love triangle drama about the successful yet lonely businessman Zi Jie and the younger Shang, who meet by chance in a store late one night. Screening on Sunday, November 10, at 17:00 in Tancred.
