Gunpowder Heart
This film is available on our digital platform.
In her debut film, director Camila Urratia depicts life in Guatemala City. Gunpowder Heart is a realistic account of how claustrophobic it is to live in a patriarchal society where crimes against women go by unpunished.
We follow young, love-struck couple María and Claudia, who are sexually assaulted by three men in a park. Mariá and Claudia’s different reactions to this trauma brings dysfunctional mechanisms into their relationship. How can María and Claudia find their way back to each other after the assault? Is it even possible?
But more than anything, Gunpowder Heart is a revenge thriller. María is obsessed with revenge, and expects Claudia to assist in her plan for payback for the perpetrators. Claudia is still in love, and when their surroundings don’t offer any help to punish the guilty ones, everything escalates.
