The lonely teenage girl, Suzu, one day comes across the virtual world «U» – a world with more than 5 billion users. Here she is no longer called Suzu, but Belle, a world famous singer with over 200 million followers. In «U» she finds back to the joy of life, dares to be herself, and starts to feel a sense of belonging she has been missing in the real world.
Belle takes us into a magical universe depicting friendship, love and belonging across real life and life online. The film has received glowing reviews and has been shown at film festivals across the world.
Director
Mamoru Hosada (b. 1967) is a Japanese animator and director. He studied oil painting at the Kanazawa College of Art, and this is clearly reflected in his films. He made his breakthrough with The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006), which won many awards both in Japan and abroad. Belle (2021) is his sixth feature.
