Diana Kennedy: Nothing Fancy
Join us for a wonderful journey in the art of cooing, with Diana Kennedy in the driver's seat.
Author and food writer Diana Kennedy died this summer at 99 years old, and despite her British origin, many will argue that she passed away as a Mexican at heart. She moved to Mexico in the 1960s where she eagerly began her life-long project exploring the Mexican food culture. In 1981 she received the prestigious award The Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle. When we meet her in the documentary she is 97 years old, and has published no less than 17 cookbooks on the subject. We join her on a fabulous journey into a world where her love for the food culture trumps anything else in life.
Diana Kennedy opens up in her characteristically strict, but inviting way, the doors for what Mexican food culture represents, but also a lot more. She goes far beyond the world of the taco and introduces us to the most important aspect in all food culture for her; no matter where you are in the world. She travels across Mexico hunting for local foods. She looks for new produce, tastes, smells, local dishes and production conditions that decides the quality of the food served. Kennedy has an ecological approach to everything she does, and talking to local suppliers is the most important thing to her. This is what makes the film, and her, to a universal eye-opener for everything that has to do with cooking.
