A shaman and her protégé are hired to cure a sick child. They are pulled into a demonic affair in this intense, supernatural horror movie.

The renowned shaman Ha-rim and her protégé, Bong-gil, are hired by a rich real estate developer to identify the mysterious illness that has afflicted the family’s newborn son, and discover that the family is haunted by a vengeful ancestor’s spirit. They decide to contact feng shui master Sang-deok, played by Choi Min-sik (Oldboy), and undertaker Yeon-geun to get their help in exhuming and moving the ancestor’s grave in order to appease the spirit. However, something much darker soon emerges...

Exhuma tells a terrifying story that combines supernatural elements with shamanistic rituals and deep national trauma related to the Japanese occupation of Korea in a striking and thought-provoking way.

The film is the highest-grossing South Korean film of 2024 and the sixth highest-grossing South Korean film of all time. It was nominated in seven categories in Baeksang Arts Awards - one of the most prestigious entertainment awards in South Korea - and won in four of them: Best Director, Best Actress, Best New Actor and Best Technical Achievement (Sound).

«Jae-hyun Jang combines introspective cultural and historical themes with creepy, gory, and atmospheric horror thrills in an exciting way. It’s fun horror with a lot on its mind.»
