Piedra Sola
This film is available on our digital platform.
A father and son are herding their flock of llamas around the northern Argentinian plains, selling wool and meat in the nearest village. When a puma eats one of the llamas, their daily routine is upended. With this starting point, director Alejandro Telémaco Tarraf explores the way of life of the local community and the mystery of nature.
As well as being the scenic backdrop of the film, the Argentinian highlands is a character in its own right. The film effortlessly combines majestic landscape shots and detailed close-ups. Classical elements as water and fire are poetic motifs as well as central elements in the film’s narrative progress.
Piedra Sola is a concise, quiet and thoughtful film. In its subdued depiction of Indigenous peoples, animal husbandry and picturesque landscapes, the film recalls of the Colombian movie Birds of Passage as well as the movies of Mexican filmmaker Carlos Reygadas.
