Gogo
94-year-old Priscilha Sitienei, better known as Gogo, lives in the heart of Rift Valley in Northwestern Kenya. Gogo is a tough-as-nails great-grandmother, who never had a chance to go to school as a young girl. But it’s never too late! Inspired by her good helpers, she takes the plunge and embarks on a new chapter of her life as a student in the highest level of the local elementary school.
Teachers and students alike are happy to have Gogo in school. Her cheerful nature and great sense of compassion and care for the younger girls establish her as an essential part of everyday school life. For Gogo, this is a life long dream come true – even though learning new skills like reading, writing, and not least mathematics is a big challenge for her. When the school staff dreams of expanding with a new building, Gogo quickly involves herself in the work to realise those plans. At the heart of this touching documentary is the issue of female education. You’ll struggle not to fall for charming and passionate Gogo, but rather cheer her on in reaching her goal to help finish the new school building in spite of the various challenges of old age.
