Spirited Away
A mesmerising Ghibli-classic with dynamic and colourful animation, about ten year old Chihiro and her fight to save her parents. The amazing characters take you into a wondrous and magical world.
Chihiro finds her parents magically transformed into pigs and she is no longer in this world, but in a sanitarium for weary spirits. Spirited Away is an exceptionally elaborate animated film that keeps impressing, even after several viewings, with its drawings, characters, vividness, and boundless, fluent imagery. Ancient Japanese myths are paired with Alice in Wonderland, spiced with dashes of video game aesthetics that brings the mind to Zelda and other Japanese games. It's technically brilliant without compromising suspense or entertainment value.
Spirited Away suits everyone. The film won the Oscar for Best Animated Film and is considered one of the biggest Asian film successes of all time.
